Our history Spectrum was formed in 2003 by three experienced clinicians who recognized a need to go beyond the scope of merely providing prosthetic and orthotic clients with products to educating and advising clients through a range of comprehensive services that help them live the life they desire.

Our expertise Decades of combined practical experience in prosthetics and orthotics along with a distinctive consultative approach make Spectrum the singular authority for prosthetic, orthotic, and pedorthic services and products in Central Iowa. Carla Hoskey, Cped, CFo, PTA
Certified Pedorthist

Carla Hoskey serves as a certified pedorthist at Spectrum Prosthetics and Orthotics. Through her specialty she is responsible for the fabrication. design, modification and fit of footwear to alleviate and prevent problems of the feet that are caused by congenital defect, disease, injury or overuse. She is also a certified fitter of orthotics, specializing in compression hose, and other custom fit orthotic devices.

Carla has been with Spectrum for 2 ½ years. Prior to joining Spectrum her work included 8 years as a physical therapy assistant in a variety of settings.

Carla’s is committed to her philosophy of "Helping the patient be the most comfortable given their situation. Finding the right solution is as much physical as it is emotional."

In 2005 she received her orthotic fitters certification and in 2006 was awarded certification in pedorthotics following graduation from Scholl College in Chicago. She currently resides in Des Moines, Iowa and enjoys spending time on her motorcycle.

Ben Ramsay
Orthotist

Ben Ramsay serves as a certified orthotist at Spectrum Prosthetics and Orthotics and is responsible for all aspects of patient care including design, fitting and adjusting of orthoses of all types including upper and lower limb, along with spinal orthotics.

He has worked in the field of orthotics for over 3 years and is certified by the American Board of Certification in orthotics.

Ben's utmost focus and philosophy is to provide consistent quality care for his patients through his knowledge, application and the care he gives.

Following his graduation from Simpson College in 2004 he earned his certificate of orthotics in 2005 from Northwestern University in Chicago and completed his residency in January 2007 with Spectrum Prosthetics and Orthotics. He currently resides in Slater, Iowa with his wife, Dee and their pets.

Jeffrey Bruce, CO
Certified Orthotist, Board Eligible Prosthetist – Partner

Jeff is one of the founding partners of Spectrum Prosthetics and Orthotics. Jeff is an ABC Certified Orthotist and has recently completed his prosthetic residency and will soon be sitting for his certification exams in prosthetics. He provides customized care using the latest technologies available in all aspects of orthotic and lower extremity prosthetic care including the RCR transtibial prosthetic socket design system and the harmony system.

Jeff has worked as a certified practitioner for 10 years and has developed a philosophy of providing individual and customized care.

Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in Biology along with credentials in secondary science education and coaching. He received his orthotic training at Century College in Minnesota and his prosthetic training from the Newington Certification Program, University of Connecticut. Jeff has worked as a staff orthotist in Green Bay, Wisconsin prior to moving to the Des Moines area. Prior to working in the field of orthotics and prosthetics Jeff worked as a research biologist and a computer systems engineer. This background assists him as he keeps Spectrum at the forefront in advanced computer technology.

Jeff and his wife, Jocelyn, live in Ankeny, Iowa. They have two sons, Justin and Gabriel. In his spare time he enjoys playing and building guitars, music recording and production, and running the sound boards at his church.


Todd A. Schweizer, CPO, FAAOP

Todd Schweizer, CPO, FAAOP
Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist - Partner

Todd Schweizer serves as a partner and president of Spectrum Prosthetics and Orthotics Inc. since its inception in 2003. As a certified prosthetist and orthotist he provides patient care specializing in lower extremity advanced electronic controlled prostheses and upper extremity myo-electric prostheses and a full scope of lower extremity orthoses. Todd also provides vision for the organization and leadership for the accomplished team of clinician and staff.

He has worked in the prosthetic and orthotic field for over 13 years bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to Spectrum. He is also a Fellow and member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetics, as well as a member of the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics.

Todd has a distinctive philosophy. "In the field of Orthotics and Prosthetics we are lucky to be able to get to know people for a long time and see the resilience of the human body and the human spirit. My goal and good fortune is to be able to play a role in this process of rehab and returning to life. Life that is often changed but still just as full and significant as ever. I consider it my privilege to do what I do every day."

Todd earned his Bachelor of Science in health education with athletic training minor from Iowa State University in 1989. He received his certification in orthotics and prosthetics from the American Board for Certification following graduation from Century College in Minnesota. Prior to Spectrum Todd served as a staff orthotist/prosthetist and as a technician in various clinics in Iowa and Minnesota. During his career he has developed and presented educational programming. He and his wife Beth reside in Des Moines, Iowa. They have two children, Carly and Tad.

Max McVey, CP
Certified Prosthetist

Max McVey serves as a certified prosthetist at Spectrum Prosthetics and Orthotics. He is responsible for all attributes of prosthetic care for patients.

Max has been providing prosthetic and orthotic care in central Iowa for over 36 years and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with him to Spectrum. He started his career in Des Moines in 1972 as a prosthetist and has provided many amputees with excellent prosthetic care ever since. He continues to be a leader in the field through keeping up with the latest technology. Max is certified in fitting electronic knee components and myoelectric hands and elbows. He has also worked extensively with all types of lower-extremity prostheses.

His years of experience is shown through his philosophy. " I love seeing all the change and progress over the years...I am able to provide so much more to my clients now than ever before. I think the future of prosthetic care will be even more exciting."

Max started his career as a technician with American Prosthetics in 1967. He received his prosthetic and orthotic education from Northwestern University in Chicago and New York University in New York. In 1972 Max received his certificate of prosthetics from the American Board of Certification in prosthetics. He has been a member of the American Academy of Orthotist and Prosthetics since 1972. He and his wife Pamla reside in Indianola, Iowa.
